DOCTOR RESPONSE; Yes,they are.I recommend that people who want to get pregnant as soon as possible use ovulation predictor kits.These kits,which test the urine for luteinizing hormones (LH),are available in most drugstores.

Luteining hormones is the hormones that is released by the pituitary to go the ovary and cause the egg to be released.When the pituitary senses that there is enough estrogen being produced from the ovary,it assume that there is an egg ready to be released.The pituitary then produces a surge of luteining hormone into the bloodstream,which goes to the ovary.Thirty-eight hours later,the ovary releases its egg.

The luteinizing hormone(LH) that is released into the bloodstream is then passed into the urine and leaves the body through the kidneys.When LH is detected by the test kit,a woman then knows that she will probably ovulate within twelve to twenty-four hours (depending on when she collected her urine,when she last urinated,and so on).When the test becomes positive,she and her husband should have intercourse a couple of times over the next eighteen hours.

Some guidelines for using an ovulation predictor kit are:

1.If you have a regular twenty-eight day cycle,you should start testing your urine on day eleven and continue until the test becomes positive.If you have shorter cycles,you may need to start testing your  urine earlier.If you have longer cycles,start somewhat later.

2.Urine should be collected at the same time every day.If it is impossible to test the urine within one hour of collection,it can be refrigerated for up to twenty-four hours before doing the test.If the urine has been refrigerated,it should stand at room temperature for thirty minutes before testing.

3.Urine that is very dilute may not have an adequate concentration of LH for detection.It is important,therefore,not to drink too much fluid during the three or four hours before the urine is collected for testing.

4.Once the test has shown positive,it is no longer necessary to test the urine.The unused tests left in the kit can be saved for the next month if pregnancy does not occur.

The ovulation predictor kits are astoundingly sophisticated test.It is amazing that they are available over -the -counter,can be used so easily,and can give such accurate results.
